Prof. Dato’ Ir. Abang Abdullah Abang Ali, received his Bachelor Degree in Civil ‎Engineering from the University of Brighton and Master Degree in Structural Engineering ‎from the University of Manchester. His area of interest is Civil/Structural and Materials ‎Engineering.‎

His career began in Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) as a lecturer in 1976. He was ‎promoted as the Dean Faculty of Engineering from 1982 to 1988. Later, he was appointed ‎as the Head of Housing Research Centre, Faculty of Engineering from 1990 to 2015, and ‎was promoted to the post of Professor in Department of Civil Engineering. He was ‎published over 240 publications mainly in structural engineering and engineering ‎education.‎

He also affiliated with various organisations and industries such as Chairman, Board of ‎Trustees, Malaysia Reconstruction Foundation (MyReF), Member Board of Director, ‎Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT), Member Board of Governors, Cyberjaya ‎University College of Medical Sciencs (CUCMS), Professional Engineer and Board of ‎Engineers, Malaysia (PEng). ‎

Prof. Dato’ Ir. Abang Abdullah Abang Ali is a Fellow in Institution of Civil Engineers UK ‎‎(FICE), Institution of Civil Engineers in Malaysia (FIEM), International Ferrocement Society ‎‎(FIFS), Academy of Science Malaysia (FASc), Asean Academy of Engineering & Technology, ‎Honorary Fellow. Currently, he is a President of Malaysian Society for Engineering & ‎Technology (MySET) and a past President of the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) ‎and Federation of Engineering Institutions of Islamic Countries (FEIIC).‎

In addition, he has received numerous awards for excellence in research. His research ‎team won a Gold Medal at the International Exhibition of Inventions and Innovations, ‎Geneva, Switzerland in 2001 for the Putra Block. Moreover, he also was awarded CIDB ‎R&D Award for his research on the Putra Block Building System. In 2008, he was ‎conferred with Dato’ Paduka Mahkota Selangor (DPMS) by His Royal Highness the Sultan ‎of Selangor.‎
